Colour coated glass splashbacks are not only practical; they also add a touch of class to any kitchen or bathroom. Cut to fit perfectly around taps, electrical outlets and fitted units, the 6 mm thick toughened glass panes enhance the modern look of a bathroom or kitchen with clean, smooth lines.
The glass is toughened to make it heat resistant and less prone to shatter on impact. Ordinary glass is not suitable for glass splashbacks, because it would be likely to vent or crack behind hobs and cookers, or across the cut outs for sockets. Two different types of glass may be used in the production of splashbacks. The optically clearest type, diamond glass, is used primarily to create panes of lighter colours. The slightly green tinted, standard float glass is used predominantly with the darker colours.
The colours of the panes are achieved by applying a coating of specially-formulated paint to the back of the glass. These paints bond permanently with the panes, ensuring they will never fade or peel as a result of the moisture and heat encountered in kitchens and bathrooms. Because the coating makes the glass non-transparent, imperfections on the wall behind the splashback will be permanently hidden out of sight.
The colour range of glass splashbacks is only limited by the availability of Dulux and RAL colours. In other words, the possibilities are endless, allowing for the panes to be matched perfectly to any type or colour of surrounding decor. From almost white silver or grey through shades of yellow, orange, pink and red or brown to green, blue, purple or shades of black, anything is possible.
It is also possible to have shelves of the same material added through invisible bonds to the splashbacks. This not only looks excellent, it also provides extra space for storage. Because storage space is something that is often at a premium, especially in bathrooms, this is naturally a great way to solve two problems at the same time.
The design options involving colour-coated glass are virtually limitless. Interior designers and architects are continually finding new ways of incorporating this excellent material in the design of kitchens, bathrooms and a whole range of residential and commercial settings. A coloured glass splashback would, for instance, look magnificent behind a bar, or at the back of deli counters. It would be equally effective in reception areas or hospital settings.
