How to create a guest ready kitchen

This is it.

The moment we’ve all been waiting for.

We’re finally allowed to invite up to 6 people or 2 households INSIDE our home!!

Did you ever think you’d be this excited about someone stepping through your front door?

But as finally a glimmer of normality starts to return, excitement might not be the only emotion you’re feeling…

Kitchen woes

For many of us, the kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s always been a multifunctional space, but lockdown has seen it pushed to the limits. Continually reinventing itself – one minute your favourite restaurant, next the office, school, gym, the list goes on. So it’s understandable that all this activity may have started to take its toll…leaving you more than a little embarrassed at the prospect of welcoming guests.

Sound familiar? Well don’t panic – and definitely don’t cancel the invites! There are plenty of easy ways you can revive your kitchen and be guest read in no time. Here, The Marble Store takes a look at 5 of the best.

5 easy ways to revamp your kitchen – quickly!

  1. Declutter

Let’s face it, we’ve not been out and about much, and over time you stop seeing what’s right under your nose. That stack of personal admin you’re always about to sort but that just keeps getting higher, the build-up of bottles and sauces on the worktop that never quite make it back into the cupboard and the favourite mugs left on the sideboards in readiness of the next cup of coffee – we’re all guilty of letting things slide and opting for convenience. But now’s the time for a good old tidy.

A thorough sort out and clearing of your surfaces will really help to lift the feel of the room and provide a fresh sense of space – check out our spring cleaning checklist to help get you started.

  1. Add colour

Colour can reinvent your kitchen. Painted kitchen doors are very on trend but if you’re looking for a simpler fix, what about creating an accent wall? A quick coat of paint could be all you need. Or how about switching pictures and prints for brighter, bolder alternatives to provide a pop of colour and update your look.

  1. Bring the outdoors in

Ok, so we’ve all seen quite enough of each other’s back gardens thank you very much, but we’ve also come to appreciate nature and the outdoors far more than we ever did before.

Studies show that indoors plants can help to reduce stress and lift your mood – they also add colour, style and personality to a room. So why not try placing a few potted herbs on your kitchen windowsill, a vase of flowers in the centre of your island unit or positioning a pretty plant on your kitchen shelves.

And don’t forget, where possible open windows and doors before guests arrive to let the air flow freely, keeping things fresh – and germ free!

  1. Use light to your advantage

Natural lighting is great but if your guests are coming in the evening, or your kitchen doesn’t get much daylight, then try using a few alternatives to your advantage.

A well placed lamp instead of harsh overhead spotlights can cast a more forgiving glow over your kitchen and help to create a relaxed ambience. Draped fairy lights can have the same effect, or candles are another great idea – and if you use scented ones, they have the added bonus of masking any lingering food smells.

  1. Replace your worktops

A carefully positioned vase can hide the spot where you dropped a hot pan but what about the red wine stain and big scratch no one’s owning up to?

Sometimes, even with the most creative of ideas, your kitchen just looks tired. But that still doesn’t mean you have to invest huge amounts of time and money into a completely new kitchen. You could just replace the worktops.

A new worksurface can quite literally transform a kitchen space, updating the look to bring a fresh modern vibe. And don’t worry that it will mean you need to delay your get together. At the Marble Store, we pride ourselves on a fast turnaround and can usually fit your new worktop within 10 days of templating. So your kitchen could be looking the part well before your first guests arrive.
