Kitchen design ideas using Okite worktops

okite worktops

Designing a new kitchen requires a lot of consideration. The layout has to be right, colours need to be carefully considered to make the kitchen bright and airy without looking cold and sterile, and obviously the worktops you decide on need to be hard-wearing, require little maintenance and be cost-effective.

Quartz composite materials are an especially popular option when it comes to comparatively cheap worktops. Okite worktops, for instance, consist of approximately 93 per cent quartz and seven per cent polyester resin. This means they have an exceptionally low absorption rate of 0.022 per cent, making them moisture and stain resistant.

This quartz and resin combination also ensures the hardness of Okite is far greater than that of most natural stone, including marble or granite, for example. As a matter of fact, there are only three natural materials that are harder than this composite, namely topaz, sapphire and diamond. As a result, worktops made from this material are extremely resistant to chipping, cracking and scratching.

Available in slabs 120.47 in by 55.12 in (306 cm by 140 cm) in size and in thicknesses of 0.512 in (1.3 cm), 0.79 in (2 cm) and 1.18 in (3 cm), these worktops can be customised to suit any project and come in a large selection of colours.

One particularly popular choice is grey Okite. The five grey finishes in the range, Grigio, Grigio Bardiglio and Grigio Chiaro (all of which are fairly light); Grigio Scuro and Grigio Nordico all look extremely attractive combined with glossy white cabinet doors and chrome fittings.

A splash of colour can be added by using coloured glass back-panels. Coloured glass panels are typically just under 0.24 in (6 mm) in thickness and are moisture, heat and scratch resistant. They come in a whole palette of Dulux and RAL compatible colours.

As they are non-transparent, they can be used on any wall, without any defects being visible. The combination of grey Okite counter tops and red or orange glass panels is particularly effective, providing a splash of colour as well as a feeling of warmth.
